I had received the email, it was in my trash bin. I was able to watch the videos and look at the articles over the weekend. Here are my responses.
Wrath- The Nazi Drawings- very powerful disturbing drawings. I like that the power is created from the content of the images rather than the artists technique/skill.
Sloth- 'Make people want things they don't need.' This video gave me a lot to think about, but for me I think it resonated more with Greed than Sloth. After watching this video my idea of how to portray a greedy person has changed. I think Green could be shown very well through objects rather than a 'type' of person. I think I would like to create a piece like a Svankmajer piece, where one object is made up of multiple others. In the video they mention that some of the desires for these material objects also stems from sexual desires, so I would like to use objects that have a sexier feel to them. The objects that I would like to use are antique styled items. Ex; pearls, silks, feathers, hats, ect.
Lust- The fishermans wife was a good view of lust that I never thought of. I like the feeling of unease it gives the viewer. This I think is based on the content of the image, and the fact that it is a woman in an intimate scene with an octopus rather than a man. I like the fact that the feelings of unease come from the content rather than the visual aspect of it.
Gluttony- I love this video and I would really like to do something like this but in image form.
-Paul McCarthy- I also watched 'trailer paul mccarthy at s.m.a.k.' This is a good visual for the over indulgence in both gluttony and greed. I also find his exaggeration and over the top approach extremely interesting.
**Greed/Pride came up as the same video. It was a 'romantic comedy' its an interesting portrayal as to how people today will do almost anything to get the things that they want. No matter what it may cost another person. And if they do not get what they want, they turn to lashing out in a fit.
I also googled Ryan Trecartin and watched his 'any ever' video and I think that reality TV may be the perfect platform for Pride. The people that are on these shows are so proud to be on them, but why? Almost all of them are on these shows to be laughed at or exploited in one way or another. Most people watch these reality tv shows (Jersey Shore, Flavor of Love, ect) to poke fun at the people on them.
*Should all of the pieces have the same overall tone? Like for Gluttony I would like it to have a grotesque discomforting feeling to it, but with Greed I would like something like Svankmajer creates with antique like luxuries.
*Pointers on using a tablet?
Magazine suggestions?
